NEWS JUST IN: Jubilee Party Endorses Fred Matiang’i for 2027 Presidential Race

Nairobi, Kenya — The Jubilee Party has officially endorsed former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i as its presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election, signaling a renewed push by the party to regain political prominence ahead of the next polls.

The announcement was made during the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, the first since its National Delegates Conference. Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni confirmed that Dr. Matiang’i’s application to run under the Jubilee ticket had been unanimously approved.

“We have received and formally accepted Dr. Fred Matiang’i’s application for his presidential bid, and the NEC has agreed that he carries our flag,”
said Mr. Kioni.

In addition to the endorsement, Kioni revealed that Dr. Matiang’i had been appointed Deputy Party Leader, placing him at the heart of Jubilee’s leadership structure.

“We have appointed Dr. Fred Matiang’i as our Deputy Party Leader going forward,”
Kioni said, noting that the former CS will represent Jubilee within the united opposition movement.

During the session, the NEC also discussed internal restructuring and grassroots revitalization strategies aimed at revamping the party’s presence nationwide.

“We were able to deal with key issues of structure and strategy. We now move out to open new branches, reconnect with our members, and recruit new ones,”
Kioni added, promising a series of upcoming activities to strengthen Jubilee’s visibility across the country.

The NEC meeting also filled several leadership vacancies. Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama was appointed National Assembly Whip, while Senator James Lomenen was named Senate Whip.

In a show of solidarity, Jubilee extended its condolences to the family of Mama Ida Odinga, wife of the late ODM leader Raila Odinga.

“We stand with the family of Mama Ida Odinga during this difficult time,”
Kioni said.

Kioni further hinted that the party is reviewing its relationship with the Azimio la Umoja Coalition, cautioning that an abrupt withdrawal could have legal implications for some of its Members of Parliament.

The endorsement of Dr. Matiang’i marks a major political comeback for the former Interior CS, who is widely regarded as a tough administrator and a symbol of reform within public service.
