Crowd Goes Wild as MP Fatuma Clashes with Babu Over Push to Return to Street Protests

A dramatic rift unfolded within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) on Saturday after Kwale Woman Representative Fatuma Masito fired back at Embakasi East MP Babu Owino over his renewed calls for the party to resume street protests.

Taking to the podium before a charged crowd, Masito firmly dismissed Babu’s push to revive the opposition’s traditional activism.

She insisted that the late Raila Odinga, in his final political posture, intentionally steered ODM away from confrontational politics and into constructive engagement with President William Ruto’s broad-based government.

According to her, returning to the streets would dishonor the wisdom and direction Raila left behind.

Masito castigated leaders she said were attempting to drag the party into confusion, warning that ODM must uphold the unity Raila envisioned.

She concluded her fiery address by leading the crowd in resounding “ashidwe! ashidwe!” chants, and also declared that the coastal region remains firmly aligned under CS Hassan Joho.

Earlier, Babu Owino had openly complained that some ODM officials belittle his contributions and have sidelined him from key party appointments.
