Matiang’i Stopped by Excited Crowd in Karuri, Joins “One Term” Chants Against Ruto



Matiang’i found himself at the center of a dramatic scene on Sunday.

 When his motorcade was stopped by hundreds of excited residents in Karuri town. 

What was meant to be a routine campaign stop quickly turned into a lively street rally. 

Filled with energy and chants targeting President William Ruto’s leadership.

According to chege majuice's Livestream on Facebook, Matiang’i’s convoy was halted near the busy Karuri market as youth and women traders flooded the road. 

They formed a human barricade using boda bodas and market stalls, forcing the vehicles to stop. 

The air was filled with chants of “Matiang’i! Matiang’i!” as the crowd demanded that he address them directly.

The former CS stepped out of his vehicle and waved to the cheering crowd before grabbing a microphone and addressing them. 

“My brothers and sisters, I hear your cries,” he said. 

“If trusted to lead, I will work for every Kenyan and protect the weak from oppression.” His words were met with cheers and loud ululations.

Moments later, the crowd broke into rhythmic chants mocking Ruto’s presidency. They shouted what locals call the “One Term” chant. 

Symbolizing a wish for Ruto’s rule to end after a single term in office. Matiang’i joined in, pumping his fist in rhythm with the crowd’s beat. 

Videos of the moment spread fast on social media, showing his animated participation as the people echoed, “One term! One term!”

The viral footage was first  on social media had gathered thousands of views within hours. 

Supporters praised the former minister’s courage to face the people, while critics accused him of fueling division.

Matiang’i’s visit to Karuri is part of a wider tour across Mt. Kenya to strengthen his 2027 presidential ambitions under the Jubilee Party. 

His growing popularity in the region is seen as a sign of renewed political awakening among frustrated youth and traders facing tough economic times.
