Good News for Teachers on Holiday as Govt Makes This Announcement, Details

Teachers and trainers across Kenya have been presented with a major employment opportunity following an announcement by the Public Service Commission (PSC) of a nationwide recruitment drive for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.

The notice, issued on December 16, details the availability of 1,000 teaching positions under the Ministry of Education’s State Department for Vocational and Technical Training.

Of the 1,000 vacancies, 600 are reserved for trainers holding a degree or Higher National Diploma, while the remaining 400 are designated for Diploma holders.

The recruitment covers TVET institutions across all regions of the country, including major urban centres and counties historically underserved in technical training.

This approach reflects the government’s commitment to expanding access to quality vocational education and ensuring equitable distribution of qualified trainers.

The counties with the highest number of vacancies include Nairobi with 47 positions, Kakamega with 46, Meru with 45, Bungoma with 41, and Uasin Gishu with 38. Other counties with notable opportunities are Nakuru (37), Kiambu (34), Kisii (30), and Kisumu (30).

The drive also targets remote and arid counties to ensure broader regional representation. 

Turkana County has nine vacancies across four institutions, Mandera has 10 posts, Wajir has 11, and Garissa has eight teaching positions.

A significant aspect of this recruitment exercise is the focus on institutions requiring multiple trainers. 

Twenty-four TVET institutions, including National Polytechnics and major Technical Training Institutes, are recruiting the maximum of 10 trainers each.

These institutions form a substantial portion of the overall recruitment drive, underlining the government’s intention to bolster staffing where it is most needed.

The PSC recruitment initiative is expected to strengthen TVET institutions by filling critical gaps in teaching staff, improving the quality of vocational education, and supporting Kenya’s broader economic agenda.
