Six Suspects Arrested in Meru After Viral Video Sparks Outrage

Police in Meru have arrested six men after a disturbing video showing a young woman being assaulted circulated online and triggered widespread public anger. 

The arrest followed fast-moving operations by officers who launched a search immediately after the incident was reported.

According to authorities, the attack happened in the Laare area earlier in the week. Residents raised the alarm after seeing the victim in danger and contacted police. 

Officers from nearby stations responded quickly, arriving at the scene to find the woman badly shaken and in need of urgent medical help. She was taken to a local hospital, where she received treatment.

Once the report was filed, investigators began tracing those seen in the viral video. Detectives used intelligence from community members, mobile phone information, and movement patterns to identify possible suspects. 

This led to a series of coordinated operations in several villages, where the men were found hiding in different homes.

Police say the six suspects arrested on Tuesday join others who had already been taken into custody earlier in the week. 

All the men are expected to appear in court once investigations are complete. Officers have also stated that more arrests may follow, as they continue reviewing evidence to identify any additional individuals who may have taken part in the assault.

The incident has intensified national conversations about rising cases of violence against women and girls. 

Community leaders in Meru condemned the attack, calling for stricter punishments for offenders and more protection for vulnerable groups. 

Several advocacy groups have also urged authorities to fast-track justice and ensure the victim receives long-term support.

In a separate but related case, police in another county recently arrested three suspects in connection with the killing of a woman whose body was found with serious injuries. 

Investigators believe the victim in that case was assaulted before being left in a remote area. The public has expressed concern that such cases are becoming more frequent, prompting calls for stronger community policing measures.

Security agencies say they are paying closer attention to gender-based violence reports and are working with local leaders to improve response times. 

A senior officer noted that community cooperation has been crucial in recent arrests, encouraging residents to continue sharing information.
