Sudi Fires Back at Malala Over Claims of Junet–Ruto Links in Raila’s Betrayal

Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi has strongly dismissed claims by Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) Deputy Leader Cleophas Malala that Suna East MP Junet Mohamed secretly collaborated with President William Ruto during the 2022 General Election.

In a video shared on Wednesday, January 21, Sudi came out forcefully to defend Junet, accusing Malala of spreading lies and attempting to rewrite political history for personal gain.

“Malala, my brother, stop these con acts. Stop saying that Junet used to visit William Ruto at night,” Sudi said.

The outspoken legislator vouched for Junet’s loyalty to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, arguing that his long-standing personal relationship with the Suna East MP gives him confidence that Junet never betrayed the ODM leader.

“If there is someone who hated Ruto, and I have known Junet for a long time, he has been my friend even when he was on the other side,” Sudi stated, referring to the period when he and Junet belonged to rival political camps.

Sudi warned Malala against making unsubstantiated allegations, suggesting that such conduct had already cost him politically.

“Malala, you need to stop with these lies. These con ways are what pushed you home. Now I’m not even sure where you and your DCP colleague are headed,” he added.

He further cautioned Malala against meddling in internal affairs of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), particularly matters touching on Raila Odinga’s political allies.

“Leave Raila Odinga’s family alone. Let them fight among themselves if they want. You are not the one to sort that out. But keep Junet out of it,” Sudi said.

Sudi’s remarks were in response to claims made by Malala on Tuesday, January 20, in which the former Kakamega Senator alleged that Junet had secretly worked with President Ruto’s camp during the 2022 election campaign.

Malala claimed that while Raila Odinga was actively leading the opposition, Junet was allegedly holding late-night meetings with Ruto and sharing sensitive information about ODM’s campaign operations.

According to Malala, Junet allegedly provided the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) campaign team with insider details about ODM’s grassroots strategy, including the deployment of party agents across the country.

The allegations have stirred controversy within opposition circles and come at a time when ODM is grappling with internal tensions.

These tensions were recently heightened by claims from Nairobi Senator and ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, who alleged that funds meant for party agents during the 2022 elections were misappropriated.

Junet Mohamed has not publicly responded to Malala’s accusations, but Sudi’s intervention adds a new dimension to the growing political fallout, pitting former allies against each other as parties reposition themselves ahead of future political contests.

The exchange underscores the deepening rifts within opposition politics and reflects the continued fallout from the 2022 General Election, which remains a source of political blame, counter-accusations, and shifting alliances.
