The event later proceeded and leaders addressed hundreds of locals who were present.
The incident comes shortly after supporters of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna were teargassed in Kitengela during the Linda Mwananchi tour.
Reports indicate that the Kitengela rally, which had attracted large crowds on Sunday, February 15, was progressing smoothly before police lobbed tear gas, forcing supporters to disperse.
Sifuna later questioned the motive behind the action, terming the response excessive against what he described as a peaceful gathering by ODM dissidents from the Orange Democratic Movement.
