Cornelius Ronoh, a well-known government critic has surprised many Kenyans after publicly declaring his support for President William Ruto.
Saying that after years of opposing him, he has finally decided to join him.
The KANU Digital Communication Officer made the statement on his official X account.
Admitting that he had been one of Ruto’s strongest critics since 2015, even before Ruto became president.
He further revealed that his opposition to Ruto started when he was still a college student.
And he never believed that the now Head of State would rise so strongly in politics.
“When some of you were supporting him, I remained constant in opposing him.
Even when I was supporting his boss Uhuru Kenyatta in 2017, I was his critic despite the fact that he is my fellow Nandi,” he wrote.
The KANU official further said that in the 2022 elections, he supported Raila Odinga despite knowing that Ruto.
Who hails from the same Nandi community, was his opponent. He added that he has finally accepted that Ruto’s political strength cannot be ignored.
“No one has fought Dr. William Ruto more than me, but he always emerges as a winner. There’s a saying that if you can’t beat him, join him,” he said.
His statement has sparked mixed reactions online given that Cornelius Ronoh was once a top critic of Ruto's government.
The KANU official had been vocal in calling out the government over abductions and extrajudicial killings. He was once a victim of abduction during the Gen-Z uprising.
