Details Emerge as Utumishi Girls Parent Reveals What Her Form 4 Daughter Shared After Fire

A mother has shared a heartbreaking account of what her daughter experienced during the tragic fire at Utumishi Girls Academy that claimed 16 lives and left many other students injured.

The fire is reported to have broken out around midnight, quickly spreading through a dormitory as students slept, creating panic and confusion in the school.

According to the mother, parents rushed to the institution after receiving distressing news, arriving in the early hours of the morning while waiting for updates on their children’s safety.

She said uncertainty continued for hours as officials attempted to manage the situation, with parents being advised to remain calm as rescue and accounting efforts went on.

By morning, she was finally reunited with her daughter, who had survived the inferno. The emotional meeting brought relief amid widespread grief within the school community.

The student, a Form Four candidate, reportedly told her mother that she and others were awakened by screams warning that there was a fire in their dormitory.

She added that the students struggled to understand how the blaze began, saying they only focused on escaping to safety as chaos spread rapidly.

The mother described the experience as both traumatic and miraculous, noting that many families were still searching for information about their children at the time.

Authorities have confirmed that investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire, while leaders including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua have called for swift action and support for affected families.

The school community continues to grapple with shock as counseling and emergency support measures are expected to be rolled out for students, teachers, and affected families in the coming days.

Parents have also urged authorities to provide clear information on the identities of those affected while ensuring accountability and improved safety standards in schools nationwide.

Many remain hopeful that lessons learned from the tragedy will lead to stronger fire safety systems and quicker emergency responses in educational institutions across the country in the future now.
