"I Told You So:" Uhuru Kenyatta Reminds Mount Kenya of His 2022 Warning

Former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has revived political debate in the Mount Kenya region after reminding voters about his warning ahead of the 2022 general election regarding the leadership of President William Ruto.

Speaking during a Jubilee Party delegates meeting at Thika Greens in Murang’a County, Uhuru expressed disappointment that many voters in the region ignored his earlier caution before the election.

The former president recalled warning residents in 2022 against supporting Ruto’s presidential bid, claiming that the region would later regret the decision.

He pointed out that in towns such as Nyeri, where businesses typically open much later in the morning, the protests are already active before dawn, forcing traders to remain closed for nearly the entire day.

Thuku argued that the demonstrations are no longer about the rising cost of fuel or economic frustrations affecting Kenyans.

Instead, he alleged that the real objective is to economically weaken the Mt Kenya region by ensuring businesses remain shut for long hours.

The outspoken lawyer further compared the situation in Mt Kenya with other parts of the country.

Speaking from Kajiado County, he claimed there were no demonstrations witnessed there on the previous day, despite Kenyans nationwide facing similar economic hardships.

His remarks have now intensified political conversations online, with supporters agreeing that the demonstrations appear strategically targeted, while critics accuse him of attempting to delegitimise genuine public frustration over the high cost of living.

The statement also comes at a time when tensions remain high in several regions following repeated protests, business closures, and confrontations between demonstrators and security officers.

As debate continues, many Kenyans are now questioning whether the protests are purely citizen-driven or whether larger political interests could indeed be influencing events behind the scenes, as claimed by Wahome Thuku.
