Fashion Designer popularly known as Bolo Bespoke has come out and revealed the name of controversial attire that Presidential Aspirant Eliud Owalo was spotted wearing in Kisumu.
Owalo had earlier updated that he visited the Chairman of the Luo Council Of Elders at his Kisumu Home. His updated was accompanied by a number of photos showing his visit.
However, what caught the attention of many was the choice of one of the outfit which he donned during his visit.
Photos of Owalo dressed in the outfit circulated on social media eliciting mixed reactions, with a section wondering whether Owalo had mistakingly worn a minidress.
Fashion Designer Bolo Bespoke has however come out and defended Eliud Owalo. He revealed that the attire Owalo was spotted wearing is called Fugu or Batakari.
According to Bespoke the attire is common in Western Africa. He said that it is a Ghanian traditional attire which is a powerful cultural symbol proudly worn by Africans in Ghana including top leaders.
Bolo Bespoke also viewed that many Africans are abandoning their own traditions and adopting foreign Culture in a bit to appear modern.
"If you don’t understand Presidential Aspirant Eliud Owalo outfit, then maybe stay silent first and learn. Not everything African must be mocked simply because it looks different from what you’re used to.
Let me educate you today: That outfit you are laughing at is a Ghanaian traditional attire known as Fugu also called Batakari.
A powerful cultural symbol proudly worn in Ghana, including by some of their top leaders and Presidents, to preserve and promote their heritage. Meanwhile, many Africans are slowly abandoning their own traditions just to appear “modern.”
