Moses Kuria Dares Gachagua: “If You Reach the 2027 Ballot, I Will Vote for You”

Moses Kuria has issued a bold political challenge to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, publicly declaring that he would personally vote for him if he successfully secures a place on the presidential ballot in the 2027 General Election.

Kuria made the remarks on Tuesday, May 19, in what many observers viewed as a direct challenge to Gachagua’s growing political ambitions and comeback efforts following his impeachment from office.

According to Kuria, he remains doubtful that Gachagua will manage to build enough political momentum to become a serious presidential contender by 2027. However, he said he would be willing to support him if the former Deputy President proves him wrong.

The statement immediately attracted attention across Kenya’s political scene, with many interpreting it as both a challenge and a subtle dismissal of Gachagua’s current political strength.

Gachagua has remained one of the most talked-about political figures since his dramatic fallout with the Kenya Kwanza administration and his subsequent impeachment battle. Despite the setback, he has continued to stay politically active and visible across the country.

The former Deputy President recently launched the Democracy for Citizens Party, which he hopes will serve as his political vehicle heading into the 2027 elections.

He has also intensified grassroots mobilization efforts, particularly in the Mount Kenya region, where he still commands significant support among sections of the population.

Political analysts say Gachagua appears determined to position himself as a major force in future national politics despite his removal from office.

He has continued meeting local leaders, attending public events, and speaking strongly on national issues in an effort to maintain relevance and expand his influence.

At the same time, Gachagua has taken his fight to court, challenging the legality of his impeachment and insisting that the matter is far from over.

His legal and political battles have kept him at the center of national conversation, with supporters portraying him as a victim of political betrayal while critics accuse him of fueling division within government ranks.

Kuria’s remarks now add another layer to the ongoing political drama surrounding Gachagua’s future.

While some Kenyans interpreted the statement as sarcastic and dismissive, others viewed it as an acknowledgment that Gachagua remains a powerful political figure capable of reshaping alliances ahead of 2027.
