BREAKING NEWS: Former Kilgoris MP & Ex Minister Dies After Reported Cardiac Arrest, Check Details

Former Kilgoris Member of Parliament and former Cabinet Minister Gideon Sitelu Konchellah has passed away after reportedly suffering a cardiac arrest, bringing to an end a long political career that spanned nearly two decades.

News of his death on Saturday, June 13, has saddened residents of Narok County, political leaders, and many Kenyans who followed his public service journey.

At the time of publication, family members had not released an official statement detailing the circumstances surrounding his death or plans for his burial.

Konchellah was among the most recognizable political figures in Narok and played a significant role in shaping the leadership of Kilgoris Constituency.

He represented the constituency in Parliament for several terms, serving under different political formations as Kenya's political landscape evolved over the years.

Beyond Parliament, he also served in the Cabinet during the administration of former President Mwai Kibaki.

He held the position of Minister for Immigration and Registration of Persons between 2006 and 2007, a period during which the ministry undertook key reforms in immigration management and registration services.

One of the notable developments during his tenure was the implementation of policies aimed at strengthening the country's refugee management framework.

His work in government earned him recognition as a leader who remained actively involved in public affairs even after leaving the Cabinet.

In 2022, Konchellah stepped away from the Kilgoris parliamentary race and sought election as Narok Senator.

Although he did not secure the seat, he remained an influential voice in regional politics and continued engaging with matters affecting his community.

Tributes have already begun pouring in from leaders across the political divide.

Kilgoris MP Julius Sunkuli expressed sorrow following the news, describing Konchellah as a leader who dedicated many years to serving the people of Kilgoris.

Sunkuli noted that the late politician had occupied a unique place in the constituency's history, having served both before and after him in Parliament.

He praised Konchellah's commitment to public service and extended condolences to his family, friends, and supporters.

More reactions from political leaders and details regarding funeral arrangements are expected in the coming days.
