Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has alleged that a large sum of money was withdrawn from a government account in Nairobi’s Upperhill area to allegedly finance disruption of planned demonstrations scheduled for Thursday.
Speaking on Press conference, Gachagua claimed that Ksh.200 million was taken from what he referred to as an Interior account, stating that the funds were intended to mobilize individuals he described as “goons” to interfere with the protests. He did not, however, provide documentary evidence to support the assertion.
The remarks have sparked political debate, with supporters of the former DP framing the claims as a warning about possible interference with the demonstrations, while critics have dismissed them as politically motivated accusations aimed at escalating tensions ahead of the protests.
Government officials have not yet issued an official response to the allegations, and the details surrounding the alleged withdrawal remain unverified.
The claims come amid heightened political activity and growing public attention around the planned Thursday demonstrations, which have been the subject of competing narratives from different political factions.
As the situation develops, attention is expected to focus on whether authorities will address the allegations and on how the planned protests unfold.
