Kenyans React as Sifuna Is Endorsed as Running Mate to This Prominent 2027 Presidential Candidate

Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has stirred fresh political discussion after expressing support for a potential 2027 presidential partnership involving Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and former Chief Justice David Maraga, adding momentum to ongoing conversations about opposition realignments ahead of the next General Election.

Speaking on June 16, 2026, during the “State of the Nation: The Way Forward Dialogue” held at Ufungamano House in Nairobi, Amisi suggested that Sifuna should only consider serving as a running mate if he chooses not to contest for the presidency himself.

His remarks come as political leaders continue exploring possible alliances and leadership combinations in preparation for the 2027 polls. According to Amisi, if Sifuna does not seek the presidency, the only individual he would support him deputising is Maraga.

The statement immediately drew interest from attendees and political observers, placing the former Chief Justice at ap ppthe centre of growing succession discussions despite his continued distance from active partisan politics.

The comments also underscored Sifuna’s increasing prominence within opposition ranks while introducing Maraga as a potential figure in future political arrangements.

Analysts view the proposed pairing as one that could combine Maraga’s reputation for integrity and institutional reform with Sifuna’s political influence and appeal among urban voters.

Amisi’s endorsement reflects broader national conversations centred on governance reforms, leadership credibility, and generational transition—issues that have featured prominently in recent political debates.

Although neither Sifuna nor Maraga has announced plans for a joint ticket or confirmed presidential ambitions, the proposal has added to the growing speculation surrounding possible opposition strategies as Kenya’s 2027 election landscape continues to take shape.
