A woman from Machakos County has come forward with allegations that she lost more than KSh 300,000 after placing her trust in a man she believed was committed to building a future with her while she was employed in the Gulf region.
According to her account, the relationship began in 2023 with a man identified as Erick Munyalo, who is reportedly linked to the General Service Unit (GSU). Despite being separated by distance, she said they remained in frequent contact and gradually developed what she considered to be a serious romantic relationship.
The woman claims that throughout their relationship, the man repeatedly sought financial assistance from her. She alleges that he presented various reasons for requesting money, including personal upkeep, emergency situations, work-related obligations, and development projects.
Trusting his explanations and believing that he intended to repay the funds, she says she regularly sent money to him through M-Pesa.
She further alleges that the financial requests persisted for more than two years and that, despite numerous assurances, none of the money was ever refunded. According to her, every attempt to seek repayment was met with fresh explanations and promises that the funds would be returned at a later date.
The situation reportedly became more concerning when she reviewed WhatsApp conversations associated with the officer. She claims the messages suggested that he was simultaneously involved in romantic relationships with several other women. The woman further alleges that more than ten women appeared to have gone through similar experiences, claiming they had also sent him money and failed to recover it.
Her disappointment reportedly intensified after she discovered that the man was married and had a child. She maintains that this information had been deliberately withheld from her and that she had always been led to believe he was single.
Following the experience, the woman has chosen to speak publicly, saying her case should serve as a cautionary tale for individuals engaged in online or long-distance relationships, particularly where repeated financial requests are involved.
The allegations have generated widespread discussion on social media, with many users expressing sympathy for her situation while encouraging others to exercise caution before sending money to romantic partners without sufficient verification and trust.
