Images of Nairobi County Chief Officer for Urban Development and Planning Patrick Analo have circulated widely following his arrest after investigators allegedly recovered more than Sh65 million in cash during a search operation at his residence in Syokimau, Machakos County.
The raid was conducted by officers from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) as part of ongoing investigations into suspected corruption and economic crimes within Nairobi County.
According to EACC Chief Executive Officer Abdi Mohamud, the operation led to the recovery of substantial amounts of money in both local and foreign currency.
Investigators reportedly found Sh51.3 million in cash alongside USD 113,000, an amount estimated to be worth approximately Sh14 million. Combined, the recovered funds exceeded Sh65 million.
Authorities stated that the money was discovered in different locations within the property, including inside the residence and in the boot of Analo’s vehicle.
The findings formed part of a broader search aimed at gathering evidence related to allegations currently under investigation.
In addition to the cash, detectives seized a variety of documents and electronic devices believed to be relevant to the inquiry.
Among the items recovered were title deeds, motor vehicle logbooks, laptops, mobile phones, tablets, agreements relating to land and vehicle sales, county approval documents, and other records considered important to the case.
Following the search operation, Analo was escorted to the EACC headquarters in Nairobi, where he was questioned by investigators.
The commission indicated that it is examining allegations involving conflict of interest, abuse of office, bribery, and possession of unexplained wealth.
According to investigators, preliminary findings suggest that the official may have received substantial sums through cash transactions and M-Pesa transfers.
Authorities are also seeking to establish whether some of the assets linked to him can be justified through his known and legitimate sources of income.
The EACC has stated that evidence obtained during the operation is expected to support and strengthen the ongoing investigation.
The commission further noted that once the inquiry is completed, appropriate legal and administrative measures will be considered.
These could include prosecution of individuals found culpable and recovery of assets suspected to have been acquired through corrupt practices.
The case represents another significant development in the broader campaign by anti-corruption agencies to address allegations of illicit enrichment and misuse of public office among government officials entrusted with public resources.
