While addressing a gathering of chiefs, Defence Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen issued a strong warning to public officials and local administrators, urging them to uphold integrity and avoid corruption in the course of their duties.
Murkomen expressed concern over reports of misconduct among some government officers, saying such behaviour undermines service delivery and erodes public trust in government institutions.
He criticized instances where officials allegedly demand bribes from citizens in exchange for services that are meant to be provided free of charge, citing examples including the issuance of national identification documents.
The Cabinet Secretary also raised concerns about corruption within law enforcement, noting allegations that some police officers engage in bribery while on duty instead of enforcing the law impartially.
According to him, failure to address corruption at all levels of administration risks damaging the government’s credibility and undermining its policy agenda.
He called on chiefs, police officers, and other public servants to adhere strictly to ethical standards and ensure that public service delivery is carried out transparently and efficiently.
Murkomen emphasized that restoring public trust requires discipline, honesty, and a commitment to putting citizens first in all government operations.
