ODM MP Donates Ksh10 Million To Women Empowerment Event, Sparks Reactions Among Kenyans

Junet Mohamed has donated KSh10 million towards an ODM women empowerment initiative held in Suna East Constituency, Migori County, as party leaders reaffirmed their support for President William Ruto ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The empowerment event, held at Kasembo Primary School grounds, brought together senior government and ODM leaders led by John Mbadi. The leaders collectively raised more than KSh35.1 million to support women-led small and medium enterprises in the constituency.

Among the contributors were President Ruto and Junet, who each donated KSh10 million. Other donations came from Oburu Oginga (KSh2 million), Mbadi (KSh1.5 million), Gladys Wanga, Ahmed Abdullahi, Ochillo Ayacko, Sam Atandi and Raymond Omollo, who each contributed KSh1 million alongside other guests.

Speaking during the event, Junet said ODM leaders had resolved to support Ruto's re-election, arguing that the party's cooperation with the Kenya Kwanza administration was aimed at delivering development and advancing ODM's long-standing agenda. He urged supporters to embrace unity ahead of next year's elections.

"ODM stands strong to protect its strongholds and deliver the presidential vote to the broad-based formation," Junet said, while calling on those still uncertain about the party's direction to join ODM.

Treasury CS Mbadi praised the initiative, saying empowering women through enterprise would strengthen communities and create more economic opportunities. He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting programmes that improve the livelihoods of women across the country.

The fundraising drive is part of ongoing empowerment initiatives targeting women-owned businesses, with ODM leaders using the event to project unity and reinforce their growing cooperation with President Ruto's administration.
