Chepchir reportedly travelled for several hours to reach Kapsang after learning that Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi would be present, hoping her situation would finally receive urgent attention after years of silence and suffering.
According to Sudi, the mother disrupted the event briefly as she pleaded for help, saying she has battled severe abdominal and navel pain since 2008, alongside recurring swelling and persistent headaches that have worsened over time.
She explained that repeated visits to different hospitals over nearly two decades have not produced a lasting solution, leaving her physically weakened, financially strained, and increasingly unable to support her household or daily needs.
Her personal story is marked by deep loss. Of her six children, three have died over the years—one in 2011 at age 12, another at only three months old, and another more recently in 2023, compounding her emotional burden.
Chepchir, now left with three surviving children, reportedly broke down while speaking to Sudi, pleading that her 10-year-old child be taken in to secure education and a more stable future she feels unable to provide.
The emotional appeal, made in a crowded public setting, drew attention from attendees and briefly disrupted proceedings, highlighting the desperation of a mother who feels trapped between illness and poverty.
Sudi later said he was moved by her condition and immediately provided transport assistance, promising to follow up on her medical treatment and assess the welfare needs of her children going forward.
He further committed to exploring schooling options for the child mentioned, emphasizing that no parent should be pushed into publicly begging for help or forced into impossible choices about their children’s future.
