Pauline Njoroge Sets the Record Straight on Claims That Uhuru Is Financing Linda Mwananchi Rallies

Jubilee Deputy Organising Secretary Pauline Njoroge has set the record straight on claims that retired President Uhuru Kenyatta is financing activities of the Linda Mwananchi movement, dismissing the allegations as political propaganda meant to discredit the group.

Speaking during an interview on Radio Generation, the popular digital communications strategist denied claims that she is acting as the former president’s representative in the movement, which brings together ODM leaders unhappy with how the party is being run.

Pauline said political narratives are often created and repeated until they are perceived as facts, adding that accusations linking Uhuru to the funding of the movement were aimed at creating a negative image around the former president.

She explained that Linda Mwananchi activities are funded through contributions from its supporters, including elected leaders and other members who believe in its cause.

According to Njoroge, elected leaders including Members of Parliament, Senators, and governors who support the initiative contribute financially, while non-elected members also offer their support when they are able.

“The current sitting MPs and Senators and Governor Orengo, who are part of this, give money. They contribute towards that,” Njoroge said, adding that even those without elective positions contribute whenever they are able.

Pauline argued that allegations that Uhuru is behind the movement were an attempt to create a boogeyman around the former president, questioning why his alleged support would be an issue if he chose to back a cause as a Kenyan citizen.

The Jubilee Party official also questioned criticism directed at Linda Mwananchi’s funding, claiming that the Oburu-led faction had spent millions to mobilise supporters during a rally at Kirembe grounds in Kisumu earlier this month. She alleged that such funds were linked to public resources, a claim that has not been independently verified.

There have been accusations by allies of President William Ruto and members of the ODM faction led by Oburu Odinga, who have claimed that Uhuru is sponsoring the Linda Mwananchi outfit. However, Senator Sifuna has in recent interviews dismissed the claims.
