Wiper MP Apologises to Kalonzo Over "No Brains" Remark, Says He Meant No Agenda

Mwingi West Member of Parliament Charles Nguna, has issued a public apology to Wiper Patriotic front leader Kalonzo Musyoka after sparking outrage with a statement in which he claimed the party "has no brains," clarifying that his words were misconstrued and that he had intended to say the party "has no agenda."

The remarks, which drew swift condemnation from Wiper loyalists and party officials, threatened to deepen an already strained relationship between Nguna and his party leadership. The MP moved quickly to contain the fallout, expressing remorse and insisting the statement had been taken out of context.

"I want to sincerely apologise to my party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and to all Wiper members for those words. What I meant to convey was that the party currently has no clear agenda — not that it lacks intelligent people," Nguna said in his clarification.

The apology, however, is unlikely to fully extinguish the flames. Nguna has been a controversial figure within Wiper for months, having defied the party's position on multiple high-profile parliamentary votes.

He voted in favour of the contentious 2024 Finance Bill against the party's directive, and later supported the impeachment motion against former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua a vote Wiper had explicitly opposed.

The legislator has since formally crossed over to President William Ruto's United Democratic Alliance, citing the need to secure development projects for his constituents, including the revival of the long-stalled Kwa Siku Migwani Mbondoni road project.

Kalonzo's office had not issued a formal response to the apology by the time of publication.
