Zack Kinuthia has dismissed claims that the Jubilee Party candidate in the Ol Kalou by-election withdrew in support of the UDA candidate.
The Jubilee Deputy Secretary General used a sarcastic post on X to mock the reports. He claimed the story was political propaganda meant to mislead the public and confuse party supporters.
In his message Kinuthia repeated the claim that the Jubilee candidate had stepped down before adding sheep sounds to mock those spreading the reports.
He then asked who was benefiting from the propaganda. He said the people behind it were well known and accused some leaders within the United Opposition of pushing the narrative for political gain.
Jubilee leaders had earlier insisted that the party had every right to defend the seat. They also urged other opposition parties to respect earlier agreements and support the Jubilee candidate.
Despite Kinuthia's remarks reports later indicated that the Jubilee candidate had withdrawn and backed UDA candidate Samuel Muchina Nyaga.
The move gave UDA fresh momentum in the Mount Kenya region where the ruling party has been working hard to strengthen its support before the July 16 mini-poll.
The by-election has exposed growing disagreements within the opposition alliance. Different parties have backed different candidates while others have accused rivals of breaking political agreements.
The changing alliances have raised fresh questions about whether the opposition can remain united ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Kinuthia's latest comments show that Jubilee leaders remain unhappy with the events surrounding the race. Some members believe the withdrawal story was designed to weaken the party and divide its supporters.
As campaigns continue political observers say the Ol Kalou contest will reveal the strength of both UDA and the opposition in one of the region's key constituencies.
