Rigathi Gachagua Claims Ruto's Cash Splash Has Sent Prices Soaring in Ol Kalou

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has sparked fresh political debate after alleging that President William Ruto injected nearly one billion shillings into Ol Kalou claiming the sudden flow of cash has distorted the local economy.

Speaking during a public address Gachagua argued that the large amounts of money circulating in the town have created an unusual economic situation.

He claimed that residents are now carrying high denomination banknotes making it difficult for businesses to provide change for ordinary purchases.

To illustrate his point Gachagua joked that even buying a simple cup of tea in Ol Kalou now effectively costs 1,000 shillings because customers only have large notes and vendors reportedly lack smaller denominations to return as change.

His remarks drew laughter from supporters while also reinforcing his criticism of what he described as excessive spending for political purposes.

The former deputy president suggested that the alleged cash distribution was aimed at influencing public opinion and boosting political support rather than addressing the long term needs of local residents.

According to him genuine development should focus on sustainable projects that improve livelihoods instead of short-term financial handouts.

Gachagua's comments come as political competition continues to intensify ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Leaders across the political divide have increasingly exchanged accusations over government spending, public resource allocation and campaign strategies.

His latest remarks add to the growing rivalry between his camp and that of President Ruto.

Although Gachagua did not present evidence to support the claim that one billion shillings had been distributed in Ol Kalou his statement quickly attracted attention on social media where supporters and critics offered sharply contrasting reactions.

Some viewed his comments as a humorous way of highlighting alleged misuse of public resources while others dismissed them as political rhetoric intended to energize his supporters.

The government has not publicly responded to the specific allegations, however officials have consistently maintained that development funds are allocated through lawful budgetary processes designed to improve infrastructure, public services and economic opportunities across the country.

As Kenya's political landscape continues to evolve statements such as Gachagua's are expected to remain at the center of public debate.

Whether viewed as satire, criticism or campaign messaging the remarks have once again drawn national attention to the increasingly heated contest shaping the road to the 2027 elections.
