Ruto Under Pressure as Alleged Plan with IEBC Vice Chairman Comes to Light

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has raised fresh concerns over the 2027 General Election, alleging that President William Ruto, Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho and a vice chairman of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) could be planning a new system to influence the outcome of the vote.

Gachagua made the remarks while discussing what he described as growing political preparations ahead of the next presidential election. 

He claimed that there was an alleged plan involving senior government officials and an IEBC official, warning that the proposed system could undermine the credibility of the electoral process.

According to Gachagua, Kenyans should remain alert and demand transparency from institutions responsible for managing elections.

He argued that any attempt to manipulate the electoral process would threaten the country’s democratic gains and deny voters the opportunity to freely choose their leaders.

The allegations have added another layer to the political debate surrounding the 2027 elections, with political leaders increasingly positioning themselves ahead of the contest. 

The IEBC is expected to play a central role in preparing and administering the election, making its independence and credibility a major issue for political parties and voters.

Gachagua did not provide publicly verifiable evidence in the remarks to substantiate the alleged plan involving Ruto, Joho and the IEBC vice chairman. 

The claims therefore remain allegations and would require independent evidence or clarification from the individuals and institutions mentioned.

The accusations are nevertheless likely to intensify scrutiny of the electoral commission and the government as preparations for 2027 continue.
