Speaking on Tuesday, September 1, during the inauguration of Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema in Lusaka, Ruto said elections should only decide who governs and should not be used to divide citizens.
“Elections are designed to settle who governs. They should never determine who belongs,” Ruto said.
The President said democracy is tested when people disagree, rather than when everyone supports the same side. He urged political leaders to accept different opinions and avoid turning political competition into personal or national conflict.
His remarks come as Kenya slowly moves towards the 2027 election, with political parties and leaders already preparing for another competitive contest.
