National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and President William Ruto’s aide Farouk Kibet have renewed their backing for former Health CS Susan Nakhumicha.
The two leaders endorsed Nakhumicha during a women’s empowerment event in Saboti, urging Kenya Kwanza supporters to unite behind her gubernatorial bid.
Wetang’ula, who leads Ford Kenya, maintained that Nakhumicha remains the party’s preferred candidate for the Trans Nzoia governor’s seat. He called on coalition supporters to rally behind her ahead of the 2027 General Election.
“Si mama yuko hapa! Anatosha, atoshi! Kuna wengine, lakini sisi kama Ford Kenya, tukiwa Kenya Kwanza, tukiwa broad-based, candidate wetu ni mama,” Wetang’ula said.

Farouk Kibet also endorsed Nakhumicha while addressing residents at the same event. He urged supporters to back the former Cabinet Secretary and asked the crowd whether she should continue pursuing the gubernatorial race.
The renewed endorsements come as Nakhumicha seeks to unseat Governor George Natembeya in a contest expected to attract several high-profile candidates. She declared her interest in the position in 2025 and has since received backing from senior Kenya Kwanza figures.
However, Nakhumicha’s path to the coalition ticket is not uncontested. Kimilili MP Kakai Bisau and former Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa have also expressed interest in becoming governor.
Bisau and Wamalwa have previously opposed attempts to settle on Nakhumicha without a competitive nomination process. They have instead called for a transparent exercise that allows interested candidates to compete fairly for the coalition ticket.
Natembeya, meanwhile, has increasingly positioned himself against Ruto and his administration. During the Linda Mwananchi tour in Meru on Sunday, August 30, he campaigned against the President and urged voters to reject him in 2027.

The competing political positions are setting the stage for a closely watched contest in Trans Nzoia. Nakhumicha now has visible backing from senior Kenya Kwanza figures, while Natembeya seeks another term.
The eventual nomination process could determine whether the coalition presents a united challenge against the incumbent governor. For now, the endorsements have intensified the political battle ahead of the 2027 election.
