Nyando MP Samuel Atandi has urged the Luo community to remain united under the broad-based government, emphasizing that divisive politics could derail national development.
Speaking during a community meeting in Nyando on Tuesday, Atandi dismissed calls from some political leaders, including Raila Odinga’s close allies, for an alternative political alignment.
He stressed that focusing on narrow interests would only weaken the community’s influence in national decision-making.
“At this point, we must remain committed to the broad-based government. Ignoring this path will only divide us and reduce our impact in shaping Kenya’s future,” Atandi said.
The MP highlighted the importance of unity within the Luo community to ensure that development projects and government programs reach all constituents.
He noted that political disagreements should not overshadow the need for social and economic progress.
Atandi also called on young leaders to prioritize national interest over personal political ambitions.
He warned that embracing factionalism could lead to missed opportunities for the community, especially in areas of infrastructure, education, and healthcare.
“The development of our counties and our people should be above all political arguments. We must work together to ensure that the government’s programs benefit everyone,” he added.
Political analysts note that Atandi’s message reflects a growing sentiment among some Luo leaders who advocate for cohesion within the current government framework.
With general elections approaching, his remarks are likely aimed at consolidating support and reducing internal divisions that could be exploited by rival political groups.
As Kenya navigates complex political dynamics, calls for unity from leaders like Atandi signal a cautious but strategic approach to maintaining influence within the broad-based government.
