Power Play or Betrayal? Kaluma Points Finger at Big Name in ODM Certificate Controversy

Peter Kaluma has reignited a long-forgotten political storm after dropping a sensational claim about the dramatic events that unfolded days before the 2007 General Election.

The Homa Bay Town MP now alleges that a top political figure  former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka  played a key role in a move that left him politically stranded at a critical moment.

Kaluma, speaking during a recent interview, said the drama began when ODM was experiencing internal wrangles that would later split the party into rival camps.

According to him, those tensions reached a boiling point when the ODM certificate  the document granting official party rights  suddenly slipped out of their hands.

Without directly watering down the gravity of his revelation, Kaluma said the incident completely disrupted his political trajectory.

He claimed that just days before the election, their team discovered that the ODM certificate had allegedly been taken away, leaving them without an official party to run under.

This, he says, plunged them into confusion and forced them into emergency decision-making at a time when campaigns were at their peak.

Kaluma described the incident as a moment that reshaped political alliances and created deep mistrust within the ODM family.

According to him, it was a betrayal that changed not only his plans but also the course of the party’s leadership structure at the time.

Political observers note that such disputes over party certificates were common in the early 2000s and often determined who would appear on the ballot.

Losing control of a certificate meant instant political paralysis, forcing candidates into desperate negotiations or last-minute party hops.

Kaluma’s resurfaced account now reopens old wounds from the highly charged 2007 political season .

A year that remains one of the most intense election cycles in Kenya’s multiparty history.

His remarks add fresh perspective to the behind-the-scenes maneuvering that shaped the contest.

As of now, Kalonzo Musyoka has not issued a public response to Kaluma’s claims.

But the statement has already sparked renewed debate among political followers.

Believing the 2007 election still holds untold stories that continue to influence Kenyan politics today.

With Kaluma’s latest revelation, Kenyans may once again start questioning what really happened behind closed doors  and who truly controlled the levers of power during that historic election year.
