'Rest Easy, Betty’ — Gathoni Wamuchomba Mourns Gospel Artist Who Stood by Her in 2022 Campaigns



The Kenyan gospel music industry is mourning the loss of renowned singer Beatrice Wairimu Mbugua, popularly known as Betty Bayo, who passed away on Monday afternoon at Kenyatta National Hospital.

Betty Bayo died at approximately 1 PM while receiving treatment at KNH, where she had been admitted on Friday after being transferred from AAR Hospital. 

The gospel artist had been battling leukaemia and was admitted due to complications from excessive bleeding.

Her death was confirmed by family members, along with her spouse Hiram Gitau (Tash) and her ex-partner Pastor Victor Kanyari, the father of her two children.

Throughout her career, Betty Bayo used her music ministry to inspire faith and perseverance, touching countless lives with her powerful vocals and heartfelt lyrics.

Following news of her death, tributes have poured in from across the nation, with political leaders, fellow gospel artists, and fans expressing their grief and celebrating her life.

Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba also expressed her grief over the loss, describing Betty as a close friend. 

In a heartfelt message shared on social media, Wamuchomba wrote, "I'm crushed by the loss of one of my circle friends. Rest easy, Betty."

The MP's tribute highlighted the personal connections Betty had built beyond the gospel music industry, touching lives in political and social circles as well.

The gospel community and her fans across the nation continue to mourn the loss of a voice that brought hope and encouragement to many during their darkest hours.
