NOPEU Secretary-General Rodgers Kipembe Mpuru has stirred fresh political debate after issuing a bold statement on shifting voting patterns in Luo Nyanza .
Ahead of the 2027 presidential election, challenging long-standing assumptions about the region’s political unity.
Mpuru, son of former Tigania East MP Mpuru Aburi, posted on his official X account asserting that Luo Nyanza will no longer vote as a single unified bloc.
He suggested the region is transforming into a competitive and unpredictable swing vote.
He emphasized that political dynamics in Luo Nyanza have changed considerably.
According to Mpuru, every presidential candidate will now have a fair chance to secure support from the region in 2027, signalling an end to traditional voting patterns.
His remarks come at a time of political uncertainty following the death of ODM leader Raila Odinga.
Raila’s absence has left a significant leadership gap, raising questions about ODM’s stability and future influence on national politics.
Within ODM, internal divisions have widened. One faction supports the broad-based national arrangement, while another strongly opposes it.

Ruto’s continued engagement has fuelled speculation about possible cooperation between ODM and UDA. Analysts suggest the two parties could form an alliance or structured coalition as momentum builds toward the 2027 elections.
Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has also turned his attention to Luo Nyanza, reminding residents of his past support for Raila Odinga across three elections. His renewed focus underscores the region’s growing significance in shaping national political outcomes.
