Good News to Babu Owino as Another Top Leader Endorses Him For Governor

Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi has reignited political debate after publicly declaring his support for Embakasi East Member of Parliament Paul Ongili, popularly known as Babu Owino, as his preferred political candidate.

In a statement titled “My Candidate Is Babu Owino,” Ahmednasir made his position clear while responding to political commentator and journalist Tony Gachoka, against the backdrop of intensifying conversations about potential contenders for the 2027 General Election.

Ahmednasir, widely known by his social media moniker “Grand Mullah,” is a prominent and often controversial public figure whose political commentary regularly shapes online and national discourse.

His endorsement of Babu Owino did not come as a complete surprise to political observers, given his previous public praise of the Embakasi East MP’s academic and professional accomplishments.

When Babu Owino was admitted to the Bar as an advocate in May 2025, Ahmednasir applauded the milestone, asserting that “Nairobi needs him.”

He framed Owino’s educational journey, intellectual depth, and resilience as rare qualities that position him well for higher leadership, particularly the governorship of Nairobi.

According to Ahmednasir, Babu Owino represents a new generation of leaders whose academic grounding and political courage distinguish them from traditional political elites.

He has consistently argued that Owino’s transformation—from a student leader to a legislator and now a legal professional—demonstrates discipline, growth, and readiness for greater responsibility in public service.

For Ahmednasir, these attributes make Owino a compelling option for voters seeking reform-oriented leadership in the capital city.

This latest endorsement also aligns with Ahmednasir’s broader assessment of opposition politics ahead of the 2027 elections.

In mid-2025, he outlined what he described as four distinct opposition groupings challenging President William Ruto’s administration.

Within this framework, Ahmednasir placed Babu Owino among a faction he labeled as “righteous and principled.”

This group, in his view, includes segments of civil society, the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), and respected public figures such as former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga and prominent lawyer Nelson Havi.

By situating Babu Owino within this principled opposition bloc, Ahmednasir appears to be endorsing not only an individual candidate but also a broader political philosophy centered on constitutionalism, social justice, and accountability.

His remarks have since fueled renewed discussion about Babu Owino’s political future and the evolving shape of Kenya’s opposition landscape as the country steadily moves toward the 2027 General Election.
