Millie Odhiambo Breaks Silence as She Exposes Details of Secret ODM Meeting Amid Internal Wrangles

Suba North Member of Parliament Millie Odhiambo has disclosed details of a recent closed-door meeting that brought together a section of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders amid growing internal divisions within the party.

Speaking during an interview with a local radio station aired on Sunday, January 11, 2025, the outspoken legislator said the meeting was held at an undisclosed location and involved several ODM figures who have in recent months expressed positions seen as being at odds with the party’s traditional stance.

The meeting took place two days earlier and came at a time when sections of ODM are accused of leaning towards supporting the President William Ruto-led regime ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Odhiambo, however, downplayed claims that the gathering was meant to undermine the party leadership or chart a new political direction outside ODM.

She insisted that the talks were purely aimed at restoring unity and cohesion within the party, which she acknowledged has been strained by divergent political views.

“The meeting was about unity in ODM and cohesion. As you have seen over the last few days, or maybe over a month or so, there have been very many divergent views, people pulling in different directions, and we thought it was important just to listen to the divergent views,” Odhiambo said.

The Suba North MP noted that ODM has, over the past few weeks and months, experienced internal disagreements that have played out publicly, raising concerns among supporters about the party’s stability.

According to her, the leaders present felt it was necessary to create space for open dialogue, allowing members to air their grievances and explain the positions they have taken.

She added that understanding the root causes of the divisions was key to finding a lasting solution and preventing further fragmentation within the party.

Odhiambo emphasised that ODM remains a broad movement with diverse opinions, but unity must remain its guiding principle.

The revelation comes amid heightened political realignments as parties quietly position themselves ahead of 2027.

ODM has recently faced speculation over internal rifts, particularly following reports that some of its leaders are warming up to the idea of backing President William Ruto’s re-election.

Despite the challenges, Odhiambo maintained that the party is capable of resolving its differences internally and emerging stronger, provided members remain committed to dialogue, mutual respect, and the party’s core ideals.
