When doctors told Caroline Wakanyi that her heart could fail in just 15 days, she thought her world had ended.
That was three years ago. Today, she is alive, stronger, and more determined than ever to share her story.
Caroline’s journey began with what looked like a small health issue. She often felt tired and short of breath, but she brushed it off.
After several tests, doctors discovered she had rheumatic heart disease, a condition caused by untreated throat infections that slowly damage the heart valves.
By the time she was diagnosed, the damage was so severe that doctors feared she would not make it.
Instead of giving up, Caroline chose to fight. She underwent surgery to repair her heart and started regular treatment to manage her condition.
The medical bills were heavy, but friends, relatives, and well-wishers stood with her. That support gave her strength to keep going when her health — and her hope — almost failed.
Her survival is more than a personal victory. Caroline believes her story can help others understand the dangers of ignoring simple infections.
“I don’t want another child to go through what I did just because a sore throat was left untreated,” she says.
She now speaks to schools, churches, and youth groups, telling them how untreated strep throat can turn into a lifelong struggle.
Rheumatic heart disease remains a major problem in Kenya and other developing countries.READ MORE..................
