Suba North Member of Parliament today sparked debate in the National Assembly after making remarks that appeared to define her unique political position within the current Kenyan political landscape.
While addressing lawmakers during parliamentary proceedings, the outspoken MP stated that she does not consider herself part of the government despite serving as the Minority Whip in the National Assembly.
At the same time, she also maintained that she is not fully in the opposition because of the growing cooperation among political leaders under what she described as a “united opposition.”
The legislator, however, made it clear that despite her position, she had chosen to support President and development projects initiated by his administration.
Her comments immediately triggered reactions both inside and outside Parliament, with some Kenyans questioning the current political alignment between opposition leaders and the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Others interpreted her statement as a reflection of the shifting political dynamics that have continued to blur the line between government and opposition politics.
Millie Odhiambo further defended her stance by arguing that leaders should support projects that directly benefit wananchi regardless of political affiliation.
She noted that development should not be politicised, especially when ordinary Kenyans are expecting solutions to economic and social challenges.
The remarks come at a time when cooperation between sections of the opposition and President Ruto’s administration has continued to attract national attention ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Political analysts now say the statements could reignite debate over the role of opposition leaders who choose to work closely with the government while still retaining their positions within opposition parties.
