“Pesa Iko Kenya” — Mombasa Mum Overjoyed After Ruto Gifts Her Baby KSh 500,000

A Mombasa mother could not hide her joy after a chance encounter with William Ruto led to a life-changing gift of KSh 500,000 for her nine-month-old baby.

The heartwarming moment happened during the President’s development tour in Mvita, Mombasa County, where he briefly interacted with residents gathered along his motorcade route.

During the visit, President Ruto stopped, picked up the baby from her mother’s arms, and shared a brief affectionate moment before continuing with his itinerary. Moved by the encounter, he later instructed that the family be traced so he could offer further support.

He subsequently directed that KSh 300,000 be used to start a small business for the mother and KSh 200,000 be set aside for the child’s education.

The mother, identified as Maryam Muhiddin, expressed deep gratitude, saying she never imagined meeting the President face to face. She explained that she had attended the rally hoping for small assistance but instead received overwhelming generosity.

Mombasa Woman Representative Zamzam Mohamed later delivered the funds on behalf of the President, confirming that the directive was fulfilled.

The emotional gesture sparked widespread reactions online, with Kenyans praising the President for his generosity while others debated the role of such handouts in long-term empowerment.

Many social media users described the moment as symbolic of compassion toward vulnerable families, especially young mothers struggling with the rising cost of living.

Others highlighted the importance of ensuring such support is structured into sustainable economic opportunities.

The story quickly circulated across digital platforms, making it one of the most discussed moments from the President’s Mombasa tour.
