Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi has ignited fresh political debate after calling on Kenya's Gen Z movement to closely monitor Members of Parliament and take action against those who support the Finance Bill 2026.
Speaking at AIC Kyanda Church in Machakos on Sunday, May 31, 2026, ahead of the highly anticipated Linda Mwananchi rally, Osotsi urged young Kenyans to keep a register of MPs and identify those who vote in favour of the proposed legislation.
He said the movement would encourage Gen Z activists to “occupy” the premises of lawmakers who back the bill, regardless of whether they belong to the government or opposition.
The senator's remarks came as political temperatures continue to rise over the Finance Bill 2026, which has attracted criticism from opposition leaders, civil society groups and youth activists.
Opponents of the bill argue that it introduces additional taxes at a time when many Kenyans are grappling with a high cost of living, unemployment and economic hardship.
Osotsi also took aim at National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, who has defended the bill as necessary for raising government revenue.
The Vihiga senator argued that Kenya has sufficient resources to run its affairs if wastage and unnecessary expenditure are eliminated.
According to Osotsi, a future Linda Mwananchi administration would prioritise reducing government spending rather than increasing taxes.
He singled out State House expenditure as one of the areas that would face significant budget cuts, claiming that previous administrations managed to operate with much lower allocations.
The senator further criticised President William Ruto’s travel expenditure, saying the Head of State should utilise the presidential aircraft purchased by taxpayers or opt for commercial flights where possible.
The government, however, maintains that the Finance Bill 2026 is essential for boosting revenue collection, reducing reliance on borrowing and funding key development projects across the country.
