A fresh political storm is brewing after lawyer and activist Ndegwa Njiru declared that any future administration taking over from President William Ruto should immediately institute legal proceedings against him.
In a statement posted on X, Njiru argued that Kenya cannot achieve meaningful change unless President Ruto is held personally accountable for alleged corruption and misuse of public resources during his tenure.
According to Njiru, an alternative government should prioritize the arrest, prosecution, and recovery of assets allegedly acquired through unlawful means.
“Upon handover, the alternative government should have Ruto arrested, charged and prosecuted, and all the properties he has stolen repatriated to Kenya,” Njiru stated, adding that accountability must be at the center of any transition of power.
The remarks reflect growing criticism from sections of the opposition and civil society groups who have intensified pressure on the Kenya Kwanza administration over governance, economic challenges, and allegations of corruption.
Supporters of the President, however, maintain that such calls are politically motivated and aimed at discrediting the government ahead of future political contests.
