Ground Inashift? Sifuna Allies Turn to Mt Kenya as Race for 2027 Political Support Gains Momentum

As political preparations for the 2027 General Election begin to gather pace, a team allied to Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna is increasingly reaching out to areas that have not traditionally been strongholds of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

The move has sparked fresh discussion about possible shifts within the opposition and efforts to build a wider political coalition ahead of the next election. 

While no formal agreements have been announced, political observers believe leaders are already laying the groundwork for future partnerships.

Much of the attention is currently focused on the Mt Kenya region, which remains one of the country's most influential voting blocs. 

Because of its large voter population, the region is often seen as a key factor in determining the outcome of national elections.

In recent weeks, opposition leaders have stepped up visits to the area, meeting residents, local leaders, and business communities. 

Their conversations have largely revolved around issues that directly affect wananchi, including the high cost of living, job opportunities, agriculture, and development projects.

Analysts say political parties are increasingly aware that voters are paying closer attention to policies and solutions rather than traditional political loyalties alone.

Although the political landscape remains fluid, growing activity in Mt Kenya suggests the battle for the region's support ahead of 2027 is already taking shape.
