On June 8, the High Court is set to issue a ruling on the consolidated petitions that contest the legality of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's removal from office.
In anticipation of the June 8 ruling, several political analysts believe that a favorable outcome for Gachagua would benefit President William Ruto.
Should the court determine that Gachagua's impeachment was unlawful, he would be positioned to pursue the presidency, thus clearing his path to the electoral ballot.
Dismus Mokua, a political commentator, suggests that Gachagua's eligibility to run for the presidency could represent an advantage for President William Ruto.
Mokua argues that if Gachagua is deemed eligible to contest, he may disrupt the opposition's dynamics.
In essence, Gachagua's eligibility could split the opposition coalition, potentially prompting some of its key members to break away and run as independent candidates.
This means the opposition votes will be split thus making it easy for Ruto to win his second term.
