As calls for unity continue to grow among allies of the late Raila Odinga, Siaya governor James Orengo has expressed willingness to try patch things up between him and the current ODM party leader Oburu Odinga.
However, in an exclusive interview with Nation Africa, the Linda Mwananchi fanatic outlined four tough conditions that Oburu and his team must fulfill before he agrees for a reconciliation meetup.
As revealed by Orengo himself, below are the four conditions that Oburu must fulfill;
1. Establishment of a clearly structured framework to guide the reconciliation talks. This according to Orengo will prevent the meeting from turning into a shouting match as witnessed in past meetings.
2. Neutral reconciliation committee members. On this, Orengo says Oburu must come to the table with politically neutral negotiators and mediators to preserve fairness. Luo council of Elders must be excluded from the talks.
3. Thirdly, Orengo wants clear demonstration of commitment to restore ODM founding principles as envisioned by Raila from Oburu and top ODM party officials.
4. Key among the demands is that Oburu must be ready to relinquish his position as ODM party leader and allow other presidential hopefuls to contest for the seat.
"But I know he won't step down as party leader since those interested in controlling him will not allow him to," said Orengo.
Looking at the weight of these demands, the reconciliation meeting may not be happening anytime soon. Orengo has declared himself the de facto party leader while Oburu is not showing any willingness to exit the office.
