A recently released online opinion survey from the Mt Kenya region has generated discussion about the opposition's prospects ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The poll, which collected views from 1,804 participants and was shared by political commentator Pauline Njoroge, examined public preferences regarding possible opposition leadership combinations.
According to the survey, the most popular option among respondents was a presidential ticket bringing together Fred Matiang’i and Edwin Sifuna.
The results suggest that a significant number of participants view the two leaders as a strong combination capable of leading the opposition into the next election cycle.
His prominence stems largely from his previous service in government, particularly during his time as Interior Cabinet Secretary.
Meanwhile, Sifuna has continued to expand his political influence through his role as ODM Secretary-General and as the Senator for Nairobi County.
The findings also revealed that Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka was the most preferred candidate for the position of Prime Cabinet Secretary among the leadership arrangements included in the survey.
This reflects his continued importance in opposition politics and ongoing coalition discussions.
However, respondents appeared less enthusiastic about a proposed lineup consisting of Matiang’i as President, Sifuna as Deputy President, and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua as Prime Cabinet Secretary.
That combination attracted the lowest support among the options presented, highlighting varying opinions on how an opposition alliance should be structured.
Despite the attention generated by the poll, political observers note that public opinion remains fluid.
With the 2027 General Election still some distance away, future political developments, coalition agreements, and campaign activities could significantly influence voter preferences and reshape the opposition landscape before candidates are eventually chosen.
