Matiang’i Deepens Opposition Unity Talks as Sifuna, Gachagua, Kalonzo Camps Push for Joint Candidate

Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has stepped up efforts to unite opposition leaders as political preparations for the 2027 General Election gather momentum.

The latest round of consultations saw Matiang’i hold talks with leaders associated with the Linda Mwananchi movement, signaling a fresh push to build a strong coalition capable of challenging President William Ruto in the next election.

Reports indicate that Matiang’i met key figures including Siaya Governor James Orengo, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, and Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka.

The discussions are said to be part of a wider strategy aimed at finding common ground between the Edwin Sifuna-led Linda Mwananchi faction and the alliance associated with Rigathi Gachagua and Kalonzo Musyoka.
