NEWS IN: Gachagua Speaks Ahead of Court Ruling On His Impeachment, Reveals His Next Step

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said he is ready for any outcome as the High Court prepares to deliver its judgment on his impeachment case on Monday, June 8, 2026, in a ruling that is expected to have major political implications.

Speaking during a church service at PCEA Muteero Church in Karen, Nairobi, on Sunday, June 7, Gachagua said he remains confident in the judiciary and is prepared either to accept a favourable decision or pursue further legal action if the ruling goes against him.

He expressed trust in the three-judge bench handling the consolidated petitions challenging his October 2024 impeachment, insisting that the courts will act independently and in line with the Constitution. 

He also called on his supporters to remain calm regardless of the outcome, warning against violence and urging them to pursue democratic channels to express political grievances.

“If the ruling goes against us, we will proceed to the Court of Appeal and exhaust all legal remedies provided by the Constitution,” he said, reaffirming his intention to continue challenging his removal if necessary.

The petitions before the High Court contest the legality of his impeachment by the National Assembly and Senate, with his legal team arguing that the process violated constitutional safeguards, including fair hearing provisions and adequate public participation.

A key point of contention during the hearings involved claims about Gachagua’s health during Senate proceedings, with medical testimony presented on both sides disputing whether his condition affected his ability to participate.

The court, composed of Justices Eric Ogola, Freda Mugambi and Anthony Mrima, is expected to issue a ruling that could either reinstate Gachagua or uphold his removal, potentially shaping both his political future and Kenya’s broader impeachment jurisprudence.
