Rex Massai Family Calls on Arrest of Those Involved in His Death

Phoebe Okumu, the mother of the late Rex Masai, has once again called on the government to unmask and arrest the officers responsible for her son's death during the June 2024 anti-government protests.

Speaking to the media during a commemoration event held in memory of those who lost their lives in the demonstrations, Okumu said the family is still waiting for justice nearly two years after the tragic incident.

Rex Masai was shot in Nairobi's Central Business District (CBD)during the protests and was pronounced dead before being transferred to Bliss Healthcare Centre at around 7:00 p.m.

While acknowledging the KSh3 million compensation given to the family by the government, Okumu insisted that accountability remains their biggest demand.

"We thank the government for the KSh3 million compensation, but we want the officers involved to be identified and arrested," she said.

Her remarks echoed the calls made by many families who lost loved ones during the protests, with relatives maintaining that justice, accountability, and closure can only be achieved when those responsible are brought before the law.
