The Alleged Reason Kalonzo Attended Thursday Demos Despite Gachagua's Warnings

Former Nyeri Town MP, Ngunjiri Wambugu, has claimed that the attendance of some opposition figures in yesterday's protests was strategic.

He has cited top opposition politicians, especially Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka and his DAP-K and PLP counterparts Eugene Wamalwa and Martha Karua.

Wambugu believes the three came out to show their independence, especially after DCP boss Rigathi Gachagua warned against the demonstrations.

In his opinion, they were on a mission to show that they are not operating under Gachagua's orders, given the former Deputy President had earlier called upon his supporters to stay safe and remain at home.

"Kalonzo, Martha and Eugene had to show up at demos jana to prove they don’t take instructions from Gachagua," he says in a Facebook post.

He believes that for Jubilee Deputy Party Leader, Fred Matiang'i, the absence was caused by fear.

Ngunjiri opines that having served as Interior Cabinet Secretary and dealt with such protests in the past, Matiang'i knew exactly how police deal with protesters and those leading them.

"As a former interior CS, Matiangi could not. He knows too much about what can happen."

Former Chief Justice, David Maraga, and Siaya Governor, James Orengo, also took part in the protests.

The protests were meant to be used to commemorate events recorded 2 years ago, when many young protesters lost their lives while matching against the government-proposed Finance Bill.

The county was, however, largely peaceful and orderly, with businesses going on as usual in some of the areas that were previously considered protest hotbeds.
