Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala has thrown his political weight behind former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, declaring his support for Gachagua’s bid for the presidency in the 2027 General Election.
Malala made the declaration while speaking in Kikuyu on Wednesday, August 26, where he expressed strong confidence in Gachagua’s political prospects. He predicted that the former Deputy President would ascend to Kenya’s highest office within the next 11 months.
His comments come against the backdrop of a recent political disagreement involving Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and the Linda Mwananchi movement.
The two politicians exchanged words after Sifuna urged Malala to concentrate on matters concerning the DCP rather than involving himself in the affairs of the movement.

During the event, Malala challenged Khalwale to relinquish control of his United Patriotic Movement (UPM) party and hand it over to Sifuna, suggesting that the Nairobi senator could then use the party as his political platform.
Sifuna rejected the suggestion and instead advised Malala to direct his attention toward strengthening and managing his own political party.
The exchange subsequently drew a response from Khalwale, who challenged Malala to make similar political declarations in the presence of his allies from the Mt Kenya region.
