Viral Video: Man Records Woman Waiting for Him Outside Archives, Goes Home Without Speaking to Her

A man has sparked debate online after secretly recording a woman who had gone to the Nairobi National Archives for a date arranged through a dating app, only to leave without speaking to her.

The two had met online and agreed to meet in Nairobi’s city centre. According to the man, he arrived at their agreed meeting point and spotted the woman sitting on the steps of the Archives while looking at her phone.

However, he said she did not look the way he had imagined based on their conversations online. Instead of approaching her and introducing himself, he decided to leave.

He later shared a video of the woman on social media, turning the failed date into a topic of discussion among internet users.

In the footage circulating online, the woman is seen sitting alone in a black top and light-coloured jeans as she uses her phone. 

Pedestrians can be seen walking past the metal railings around the Archives as the usual bustle of Nairobi’s city centre continues.

The man, who appears to have recorded her from a short distance, is partially visible in the footage wearing a light blue T-shirt and a matching mesh-back cap.

The incident has divided opinion online. Some users criticised the man for judging the woman solely on her appearance and questioned his decision to record and publish footage of her without her consent.

Others defended his choice not to proceed with the date, arguing that no one should be pressured into meeting someone they are no longer interested in.

The woman has not publicly addressed the incident, and her identity remains unknown.

The episode has also reignited discussions about online dating and the expectations people form before meeting in person. 

While many agreed that either party has the right to walk away from an unwanted date, others felt the situation could have been handled privately rather than turning the woman's rejection into social media content.

For many observers, the controversy was therefore less about the failed date and more about the decision to publicly film and share the encounter.
