Speaking on Saturday, August 22, Lenku accused some ODM officials of supporting a candidate from a rival political party in the Kajiado gubernatorial race. He described the move as a betrayal of ODM supporters who have continued to stand with the party.
Lenku said ODM leaders had campaigned for State House Comptroller Katoo Ole Metito, despite his deputy, Martin Moshisho, seeking the Kajiado governor's seat on an ODM ticket.
The governor said he expects ODM acting party leader Oburu Oginga to address the matter and issue an apology to party supporters in Kajiado. He warned that failure to do so could have serious political consequences for ODM in the county.
"We are still waiting for an apology," Lenku said, arguing that party leaders should respect members who have worked to build ODM's support in Kajiado.
Lenku went further, warning that he and his supporters were ready to shut down ODM's operations in Kajiado if what he called the betrayal continued. He also suggested that some leaders and supporters could move to Edwin Sifuna's Linda Mwananchi movement.
The warning comes as political activity increases across Kenya ahead of the 2027 General Election. Several parties and political movements are already working to strengthen their support in different counties.
