Njohi argued that opposition leaders seeking to challenge President William Ruto should be prepared to support whoever is eventually chosen as the coalition’s presidential flag bearer.
He listed several leaders who, according to him have demonstrated willingness to rally behind a common candidate.
They include DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua, PLP leader Martha Karua, Safina leader Jimmy Wanjigi, DP leader JB Muturi and People’s Party leader Ndindi Nyoro.
Njohi noted that Nyoro has publicly indicated that he would support another candidate if he is not selected as the preferred flag bearer.
He also pointed to similar commitments attributed to Gachagua and Muturi, describing their positions as evidence of the spirit needed to build a united opposition.
However, Njohi raised questions about Ndorongo’s position, claiming that the KENDA leader has not publicly committed to supporting another candidate if he fails to secure the opposition ticket.
According to Njohi, Ndorongo’s insistence that he must be the candidate could create divisions within the opposition at a time when unity is being presented as a key strategy for the 2027 contest.
The remarks have added another layer to the ongoing discussions over how the opposition should settle on one presidential candidate.
Njohi ultimately posed a provocative question, asking who could be working against the unity being pursued by the opposition.
